Photojournalist & Air Force Pilot

“Photography is a love affair with life.”

I’ve always been obsessed with storytelling. As early as I can remember, I was orating fictional stories to my family on long road trips, earnestly directing superhero movies packed with cheap special effects starring my younger brother, and generally observing and documenting life around me. Although the storytelling medium was shifting, the passion remained a constant throughout every phase of life growing up.

During my plebe (freshman) year at the U.S. Naval Academy, I noticed a handful of peers carrying around flashy DSLR cameras documenting life at school, from football games to notable keynote speakers to the most mundane room inspections. They worked for the Lucky Bag, the Academy’s historically renowned yearbook. I was immediately drawn to the idea of photography as a storytelling medium, so I set to work assembling a portfolio worthy of an application for the following year. The rest is history, and I spent my Academy career documenting and telling stories with the camera as the medium I finally settled on.

My wife surprised me with my first film camera, a medium format Minolta TLR, as a graduation gift in 2020. I immediately fell in love with the intentionality required when shooting analog - it has challenged me to slow down and spend extensive time observing the people and environments I’m working in before composing each shot. It keeps me present, which contributes to the rush I feel every time I pick up a camera. While living in England and traveling across Europe and North Africa from 2020-2021, I shot solely on 35mm and 120 film, creating a large body of work featured on this site, and I’ve continued to create primarily analog documentary work throughout my career as an Air Force pilot.

In this current shade of life I can be found in Osan, South Korea, continuing the search for stories, adventure, and beauty in the mundane.
